「My Best Weezer Song」を考えてみる

“Transista!”のblogで「My Best Weezer Song」が発表されていたので、一応こちらでも開催。絞りきれず結局Best10になりました。以下順位。
1位 「The Good Life」
2位 「Across the Sea」
3位 「You Gave Your Love to Me Softly」
4位 「No One Else」
5位 「I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams」
6位 「Buddy Holly」
7位 「Surf Wax America」
8位 「My Name Is Jonas」
9位 「The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Hymn)」
10位　「Dope Nose」
次点で「Susanne」、「Jamie」、「Why Bother?」、「Don't Let Go」、「Photograph」、「Island in the Sun」、「Keep Fishin'」あたりでしょうか（結局絞りきれていない）。
1位と2位はほぼ同着で「The Good Life」と「Across the Sea」。『Pinkerton』期のweezerの凄いのはシングルのカップリングの濃さ（これは『(What's the Story) Morning Glory?』期のoasisと同じですな）で、その代表格が「You Gave Your Love to Me Softly」と「I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams」 。バラード系が入らなかったのはやっぱりクラブで聞いていた印象が強いから。思えば2001/04/18に福岡のZepp Fukuokaでweezerはライブをやっていて、club weezerという安易なタイトルを掲げたイベントを開催したのはその時でした。あれからもう8年半も経つけれど、バンドが健在で新作を発表し続け“Transista!”という福岡から生まれた新しいパーティでも特集されるとは夢にも思いませんでした。以上、明日「The Good Life」をかけるという重責を担うDJに期待を込めながら「My Best Weezer Song」をお届け致しました。
